Task Management in ED
Emergency Departments in hospitals are typically the most challenging environment to implement effective, technology enabled Soft FM task management solutions. Often, task demand and the efficiency of resource allocation is not measured effectively, making it impossible to drive improvements in service delivery.
Through real-world examples from our years of experience in the industry, we explore different ways in which the barriers to implementing fit-for-purpose technology enabled processes in ED can be overcome, and the benefits that can be gained.

Reusable Packaging: Challenges and Opportunities for Food Service Delivery
The mantra of “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” is now a common and excepted phrase within the packaging industry and huge efforts have been made in terms of light weighting, using more easily recyclable materials and improving user understanding the recyclability of materials and the waste process. However, reusable packaging has been a tougher nut to crack for many reasons including the lack of acceptance by consumers, poor infrastructure, brand identity and lack of regulatory momentum.
That said reusable packaging has many environmental and cost benefits and will be part of the long term solution in reducing carbon emissions. This presentation looks at the challenges and opportunities for reusable packaging within NHS food service delivery.

The Burden of Operating Room Waste: How to Win-Win and Aid Decision Makers to Support Healthcare Sustainability.
Healthcare waste auditing is the linchpin to evaluating effective waste management strategies and sustainable development within hospitals. Surgical care is the largest generator of waste per patient contributing towards the 5.7 million tonnes CO2e per year across surgical procedures. This research examines the big-ticket item of large joint surgery waste management within an operating room at a large United Kingdom National Health Service (NHS) hospital, estimating that NHS primary hip replacements alone generate approximately 1000 tonnes of waste per year. Substantial waste reduction can be achieved through reducing single use device use that concurrently decreases both financial and environmental costs burdening the NHS.
